This Multi-Disciplinary
unit is designed to be used with middle school students. This unit will engage students in an exploration
of other Spanish speaking cultures.
Students will be able to know facts and elements from different
countries. Through projects, students
will demonstrate an understanding of cultural awareness, roots and values of
other cultures as well as draw connections and contrast their own culture.
A Spanish lesson explores celebrations, holidays, festivals or carnivals. A Language Arts lesson which enables students to exercise their research skills while learning about explorers who made significant discoveries which impact the world we live in today; A Physical Education class actively engage students with games of football and American soccer; while the Geography lesson evaluates a Spanish countries geography and the impact cultures have had on geographic landmarks; and a History lesson has students present a case as to whether or not Christopher Columbus is guilty of genocide against the native people of North and South America.

Summary
Students will be introduced to Spanish culture through playing Futbol, comparing it to American Soccer and creating a promo video for the sport and Spanish culture. The goal of this assignment is for students to understand the basic rules of Futbol, Spanish culture and interesting facts about the country and sport.
